Every year, hundreds of films are screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
Is Cannes the city of movies? Not entirely, but there is plenty of movie-fun to be had there.
UPDATE: The 76th edition of the Festival de Cannes due to take place from 16 to 27 May, 2023.
Most of the time, Cannes is a small but glamorous seaside resort on the French Riviera. But for ten days every May, it becomes the centre of the movie world. Everyone that is anyone from the film industry congregates there. This includes producers, distributors, financiers, agents, actors, writers and the hyphenates.
It also includes visitors - up to 100,000 people pack into the town to hang out, join the parties, watch the daily parade of celebrities and others (like the people in the photo above) attend the screenings in evening gowns.
Cannes, of course, is also home to the big screenings that get all the attention. But these are not actually the most important part. The action is happening in the Marché du Film (Film Market). The vaults of the Palais and the esplanade of the Village International are alive with people setting up films for next year and the year after. There are also other festivals, special screenings throughout the year and a few cinemas in town.
Cannes-Film looks at the movie-related aspects of the Riviera town, from the regular screenings outside of the festival to events that take place during it.
If the business side interests you or you want to see what is happening in Cannes right now, step over to Cannes or Bust or the Marché du Film.
